Cthulhu is a fictional cosmic entity created by writer Howard Phillips Lovecraft. He first appeared in the short story "The Call of Cthulhu," published in 1928. Cthulhu is depicted as an ancient and powerful creature that sleeps deep beneath the ocean in the city of R'lyeh. It is described as a mixture of a human-like creature, an octopus and a bat. In Lovecraft's mythology, Cthulhu is one of the Great Ancient Ones, cosmic beings who were present on Earth before the emergence of humans, and now sleep or wait to rise again. His image has become iconic in horror literature and popular culture.
