The Kraken is a legendary sea creature originating from Norse folklore. According to legend, it resembled a giant octopus or squid, capable of sinking ships with its powerful tentacles. Sailors believed it would suddenly emerge from the ocean depths, creating whirlpools that sucked in everything around it. Stories about the Kraken were particularly popular among fishermen from Norway and Iceland. Although there is no evidence of its existence, giant squids may have inspired this legend. Today, the Kraken is often used in literature and films as a symbol of the mysteries and terrors of the oceans.

The obverse design depicts a dramatic scene at sea, where a massive Kraken emerges from the waves and attacks a wooden ship. Its powerful tentacles wrap around the hull, while the churning waves and splashing water emphasize the terror of the situation. In the background, mountains and a somewhat fantastical, colorful sky are visible, giving the illustration a fairy-tale quality.
