A gold banknotecovered with a thin laminate as an alternative to paper dollars.

The Idaho 25 Goldback depicts one of the most important scientific achievements of the 20th century through the virtue of Scientia, or knowledge and understanding. On December 20, 1951, the Experimental Breeder Reactor I in Arco, Idaho, became the world's first power plant to generate electricity using nuclear energy, lighting four light bulbs.

The female scientist in the illustration symbolizes Idaho's contribution to science and engineering, including the work of women at the highest levels of research. The equations on the blackboard behind her were crucial to this moment in history. The card features a quote from Idaho native Philo T. Farnsworth, inventor of television: "There is nothing worth knowing that is not difficult."
