The 2 penny coin was one of the smallest circulating denominations of the Second Republic. It was issued between 1925 and 1939, and its design and material composition reflected both the aspirations of the reborn state and the changing economic realities of the interwar period. Two pennies from 1925-1939 are today a valued numismatic souvenir, a symbol of monetary stability of the interwar period and an example of the high artistic level of Polish minting. For collectors, it is an important part of the series of penny coins of the Second Republic.

These coins were produced mainly at the State Mint in Warsaw, and in some years at other foreign mints due to limited production capacity. They were in general circulation until the outbreak of World War II. After 1939, they gradually disappeared from the market, and after the war they were not reissued in this form. The coin was minted from bronze (an alloy of copper with tin and zinc). It had a diameter of 17 mm, a weight of about 2 grams and a smooth edge. Thanks to its simple but elegant design, the 2-penny is regarded as one of the most aesthetically pleasing circulation coins of the time.
