A 2-ounceAustralian Kookaburra silver coin, additionally gold-plated.

This unique silver coin depicts the kookaburra—one of Australia’s most iconic birds, often referred to as the “queen of the bush.” Its image has appeared on issues from the renowned Perth Mint for over three decades, and each new release in the series delights collectors with original interpretations of this extraordinary inhabitant of the Australian continent. The latest edition is a striking combination of the classic kookaburra motif with a modern approach to numismatic art. The coin is crafted from 2 ounces of pure 9999 silver, which means it has a silver content of 99.99%. The use of the High Relief technique has resulted in an exceptionally three-dimensional depiction. The strongly raised elements of the design lend greater depth to the bird’s silhouette and other details, making the composition exceptionally striking even when viewed from different angles.

An additional feature that distinguishes this issue is selective gold plating. The precious metal was applied in precisely selected areas, creating a striking contrast with the silver surface and highlighting the most important elements of the composition. The gilding includes, among other elements, the coin’s rim and the silhouette of the kookaburra with the snake, giving the central scene an even more prestigious and decorative character.

The focal point of the reverse is a depiction of a kookaburra captured in flight above a fragment of a characteristic Australian landscape. The bird’s dynamic pose lends the design a sense of movement and naturalism. The presence of the snake draws particular attention; together with the kookaburra, it creates an intriguing scene evoking the wild, unpredictable nature of the Australian bush. The obverse features a portrait of King Charles III, the current monarch of the United Kingdom. The royal effigy is a distinctive element of contemporary Australian coin issues. At the bottom of the obverse is the denomination—2 Australian dollars—as the coin is legal tender in Australia.
