The Austrian Mint'sgold ducat is a popular investment coin.

In the Middle Ages, ducats were one of the most popular coins in circulation in Europe. The origins of gold ducats date back to the 16th century, when their production began in Italy. It continued uninterrupted for 300 years, until the outbreak of World War I. It is this event that is associated with the symbolic date of 1915, when their issuance ceased. This date is found on all ducats issued today.

The reverse of the gold coin depicts the right profile of the Austrian ruler, Emperor Franz Joseph I, Emperor of Austria since 1848 and King of Hungary since 1867. He ruled until 1916. The obverse presents the image of the Austrian coat of arms, an eagle with two heads and tails. Around it is the inscription "Hungar bohem gal lod ill rex a a" along with the symbolic date 1915. The inscription literally means: "Hungary, Bohemia, Galicia, Lodomeria, Illyria, King and Archduke of Austria."
