1 Ducat Gold Coin, New Strike, 3.44 g, Circulating
A modern edition of the popular Austrian gold coin.
The AustrianGold Ducat is a popular investment coin.
In the Middle Ages, ducats were among the most popular coins in circulation in Europe. The history of gold ducats dates back to the 16th century, when their production began in Italy. It continued uninterrupted for 300 years, until the outbreak of World War I. It is precisely this event that is associated with the symbolic date of 1915, when minting ceased. This date appears on all ducats issued today.
The reverse of the gold coin depicts the right profile of the Austrian ruler, Emperor Franz Joseph I, Emperor of Austria from 1848 and King of Hungary from 1867. He reigned until 1916. The obverse features the coat of arms of Austria, a double-headed eagle with two tails. Surrounding it is the inscription "Hungar bohem gal lod ill rex a a" along with the symbolic date 1915. The inscription literally translates to: "King of Hungary, Bohemia, Galicia, Lodomeria, and Illyria, and Archduke of Austria"
