The Tudor Beasts: The Welsh Dragon 2024 Gold Coin, 1/4 ounce

Gold coin from the Tudor Beasts series weighing 1/4 troy ounce.

zł4,105.00

A popular gold investment coin from Britain's Royal Mint.

The coronation of Elizabeth II was one of the most important events in the history of the British monarchy. The ceremony was broadcast live on television and attracted the attention of millions of people around the world. The ceremony took place on June 2, 1953 at Westminster Abbey in London. Elizabeth II assumed the throne after the death of her father, King George VI. The gold coin series on display commemorates the event, and features images of heraldic creatures whose statues were in the abbey during the coronation.

The reverse of the gold investment coin depicts a Welsh dragon holding a heraldic shield in its paws. According to legends, the creature fought a white dragon, which was thought to symbolize the battle between the Welsh and the invaders. The red Welsh dragon was ultimately victorious. The flag with the red dragon was officially adopted as the national flag in 1959, although the dragon itself as a symbol has a much longer history. On the obverse we see the left profile of the current king, Charles III, along with the denomination, which is 25 British pounds.
