We present a unique, one-time edition commemorating the 250th anniversary of the United States of America and a must-have collector's item as the nation celebrates this event in 2026. The federal district was carved out of land ceded by Maryland and Virginia along the Potomac River, strategically located between the northern and southern states. President George Washington personally selected the specific location and hired Pierre Charles L'Enfant to design the city, which was named in honor of President Washington. The federal government officially moved from Philadelphia to the new capital in 1800, although the city remained largely undeveloped for many decades thereafter.

The obverse of the Washington D.C. Goldback banknote features the figure of Columbia in the foreground, with the United States Capitol building visible in the distance. In her traditional iconography, Columbia typically held a shield and a sword, which conveyed various aspects of American character and values. The shield symbolized defense, the protection of liberty, and the nation's determination to guard its independence and democratic principles against both external and internal threats. The sword signified strength, military readiness, and a willingness to fight for liberty and justice when necessary. Together, these attributes portrayed America as a defender of its own freedoms and, at the same time, a country capable of using force when its values were threatened.
