The 1 Cedi Aurum gold banknote, made using Aurum technology, represents the country's first legal tender based on this patented method. The design commemorates the "cedi," a shell currency that for centuries enabled the exchange of goods and the movement of people in Europe, Africa and the New World. The issue underscores Ghana's centuries-old tradition as one of the most important gold producers. In 2018, Ghana officially surpassed South Africa to become the largest gold producer on the entire African continent.

African Justice, personified as a young, strong and confident Ghanaian woman, looks to the future. Her profile highlights the qualities that define Ghana, whose name etymologically means "mighty warrior-king." The obverse depicts the clearly visible Star of Ghana; the denomination and overall layout are reminiscent of a paper cedi. The reverse features Ghana's coat of arms, modeled after the country's traditional coins. The coat of arms is surrounded by steppe eagles, shown in a heraldic, protective pose.
