The Tudor Beasts: Seymour Unicorn 2024, 1 oz Golden Coin
Gold coin from the Tudor Beasts series weighing 1 troy ounce.
A popular gold investment coin from Britain's Royal Mint.
The Tudor Beast series of silver bullion coins was issued to commemorate the 65th anniversary of Elizabeth II's coronation. The collection was created to worthily replace the Queen's Beasts series, which was popular in previous years. The gold and silver coins won the hearts of many investors and collectors with their artful combination of the long-standing history of the British royal family with a mythical element. The new series, The Tudor Beasts, includes 10 coins and comes from the famous mint, The Royal Mint, with traditions dating back to the 15th century. The motifs on the values represent the noble families, and the creatures present on them allude to the most famous legends and fairy tales.
The Tudor Beasts - a wealth of British heraldry
The Tudor Beasts is a series of ten coins alluding to the statues of royal guards forming the honor guard of Westminster Abbey. The monoliths were erected to commemorate the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II, which took place on June 2, 1953. It is the images of the royal guards that adorn the products forged at the British mint, The Royal Mint. Like the Queen's Beasts before them, The Tudor Beasts gold investment coins represent the rich tradition of English heraldry. The fairy-tale creatures have been featured on royal seals, banners and knightly shields for many centuries.
All the motifs are closely linked to the history of royal families, introducing those interested to the fascinating history of Britain. The first coin in The Tudor Beasts series was the Lion of England, which was placed on the coat of arms of England as early as the 12th century and, with minor adjustments, remains there today. The collection was soon joined by 9 other productions, including the Bull of Clarence specimen on display.
The Tudor Beasts: Bull of Clarence
The Bull of Clarence collector coin was created as the fourth in The Tudor Beasts series. The theme of the presented coin is the Unicorn being identified with the Seymour family. Specifically, it refers to Jane Seymour, the third wife of King Henry VIII and mother of his only male heir, the future King Edward VI.
The reverse of the gold cylinder by David Lawrence presents us with a heraldic unicorn holding a shield of arms in front of it. Around him is the name of the coin, the date of issue, as well as the weight and an indication of the silver content. The obverse shows us the left profile of the current King of the United Kingdom, Charles III, along with the coin's denomination of 100 British pounds. Martin Jennings is responsible for its design.
