The Somali Elephant is part of the "African Wildlife" collection, inspired by wild animals found in Africa.

African Wildlife is a unique collection of coins dedicated to the wildlife of the African continent. Since 2004, coins from this series have been the official bullion coins of the Republic of Somalia. An interesting feature that makes this series collectible is that the images of the animals change every year. The "African Wildlife" collection is produced by the Bavarian State Mint in agreement with the Somali authorities.

The obverse of the coin features the coat of arms of Somalia - two leopards supporting a shield with a star in the center. We can also find the denomination of the coin - 100 Somali shillings (SOS), the year of minting and the inscription "Somali Republic". The reverse of the coin depicts the silhouette of an adult elephant. The image is dominated by the animal's head in the foreground. In the background, we can see the landscape of the African savannah. Above is the inscription describing the collection - "African Wildlife" and below is the weight and fineness of the coin.
