Czech Lion 2025 Silver Coin, 1 oz.
The latest edition of Bohemian Lion broadcast by The Czech Mint.
Silver bullion coin issued in a small mintage of 5,500 pieces.
The symbol of the Czech lion has been a source of fascination for centuries and is shrouded in numerous legends. One of them tells the story of Prince Bruncvik, who, shortly after assuming the throne, embarked on an extraordinary journey. In the course of it, he came face to face with a powerful dragon, engaged in a battle with a lion. The prince sided with the lion, helping him defeat the beast. As a token of gratitude, the animal pledged allegiance to him and has not left his side since. In turn, chroniclers report that Emperor Frederick I Barbarossa granted Prince Ladislaus II a royal crown, and as part of the new coat of arms, replaced the previous eagle with a majestic lion. Whatever its origins, the first historical mention of the Czech lion dates back to 1203 - it adorned the equestrian seal of Ladislaus Henry of the Přemyslid dynasty.
The reverse of the silver bullion coin depicts an intricately rendered Bohemian lion with the crown of St. Wenceslas, symbolizing the power and history of the Czech Republic. Slightly to its left is a shield with the eagle's coat of arms. The coin's obverse is decorated with a classical portrait of King Charles III, next to which the year of issue and the face value - 2 New Zealand dollars - are placed.
